The Blog
Class Interference will take an inside look at the everyday life on an athlete, through commentaries that explore their struggles and successes. This blog will feature game commentaries, college sports-related news stories and personal, in-depth accounts from real, current college athletes. The goal of this blog is to educate the common person on what a college athlete goes through in order to be successful, and to show that the college athlete has to worry about much more than books and performing well on the field.
Featured commentaries will be centered around student athletes and their role in certain games, their role at their college or university and the conflicts they may face as a young athlete. The title Class Interference is a play on the phrase “pass interference,” which is a penalty called when a player impedes another player's ability to catch a downfield pass prior to the ball's arrival. The term Class Interference suggests that the relationship between college sports and academics is a complicated one, with each impeding on the other over the course of a student athlete's college career.
Athletes being forced to choose improving their game over raising their grades is usually the main topic of discussion when it comes to college athletics, leading to ugly stereotypes and opinions surrounding the student athlete. However there is a plethora of other complicated issues that plague the student athlete. Some of these issues include superiority complexes that come with their celebrity status, hidden agendas and favoritism by coaching staffs, psychological and physical problems that come from injuries sustained during competition and backdoor policies that harm the student athlete but help the pockets of the schools they play for. Class Interference will dissect these issues by going straight to the source-- it will serve as the voice for the student athlete and provide and objective commentary on what it really takes to be a student athlete.
